Special services planned for the holiday season

Bethel Missionary Church, 63473 C.R. 17, Goshen, will hold a candlelight and communion service at 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22. Nursery care will be provided for preschool-age children. Information: www.bethelmissionarychurch.org.

Christmas Sweater Caroling, 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, at Adamsville Road Church of God, 51287 C.R. 7. The youth invite everyone to a time of caroling at local nursing homes, and everyone is encouraged to wear their most outrageous Christmas sweater. Refreshments will follow at the church.

Central Christian Church, 418 W. Franklin St., will hold a candlelight Christmas Eve service at 11 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24.

Dunlap United Methodist Church, 23674 U.S. 33, will host a meditative communion service at 7 p.m. Christmas Eve, Tuesday, Dec. 24. You may come any time from 7 to 8 p.m. to receive communion from Pastor Joe and have a period of quiet prayer and reflection. The Christmas Eve candlelight service will begin at 11 p.m. and will have carols and special readings.

The First Presbyterian Church Chancel Choir, directed by Marcia Yost, will present “By Heaven’s Light” during the 10:20 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, worship service. The cantata will include lighting of the Advent wreath and special instrumental and vocal music. Candlelight communion services at 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. Christmas Eve will highlight the birth of Christ. After a brief message titled “At Home, in Our Arms” (Luke 2:1-20), attendees will sing the traditional “Silent Night” to candlelight. Christmas Day dinner at First Presbyterian Church, 215 E. Lincoln Ave., Goshen, is open to anyone from the community. Last year, more than 600 meals were served and/or delivered. The dinner is served at no cost. The church doors will open at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 25. Starting at 1 p.m., guests will be seated and served a traditional holiday meal. Volunteers from the church and the Michiana area will serve until 2 p.m. The pastors will be available for prayer and spiritual guidance during the event. No reservations are needed for the dinner at the church. Carry-out and delivery are available. For preordered drive-through carry-out or delivery call the church at 533-7845 (9 a.m. to noon Monday and Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday). The last day to reserve meals for delivery and for preordered drive-through carry-out is 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19. If there is no one to take your order, please call during office hours. Anyone wishing to help with the Christmas dinner may contact the church. Volunteers are needed for deliveries (arrive at 11 a.m.), serving (arrive at 11:30 a.m.) and cleanup (arrive at 1:30 p.m.). Stop by Calvary United Methodist Church, 2222 W. Indiana Ave., from 5 to 7 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31, for Watch Night open communion. End the year with a few moments to pray and reflect with the Lord. Rejoice in celebration of the new year by partaking of holy communion. Come and go as you wish. Communion is open to anyone who wishes the blessing of the Lord.
