ELKHART — Grace Lutheran Church will hold a celebratory service to commemorate its 140th anniversary on Oct. 27.

“In 1873 we were located downtown,” says vice president of the congregation council Marsha Wirt. “We have stayed in the downtown area for all of these years.”

According to Wirt, Grace is involved with the community in many ways, providing food, clothing, and the Center for Healing and Hope health clinic. It also holds meetings for Alcoholics Anonymous and for recovering cocaine addicts, as well as community events including a “Take Off Pounds Sensibly” group and a square dancing group that meets each Sunday afternoon.

The church service will be at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 27. Grace Lutheran Church is located at 831 W. Marion St. in Elkhart. For more information visit or call 294-1951.
