GOSHEN — American College of Cardiology's National Cardiovascular Data Registry recently recognized IU Health Goshen Hospital with the 2014 GWTG Platinum Performance Achievement Award. IU Health Goshen Hospital is one of 256 hospitals nationwide to earn the distinction and the only hospital in northwestern Indiana to receive the award.

The award recognizes collaboration between cardiovascular teams and emergency medical providers at IU Health Goshen Hospital to effectively coordinate care.

"Our standard of care has helped us save lives and improve outcomes of heart attack patients," said Dr. Mark Smucker, medical director of cardiology services at IU Health Goshen Hospital.

To receive the award, IU Health Goshen Hospital consistently followed treatment guidelines in the ACTION Registry-GWTG Premier for eight consecutive quarters and met a 90 percent performance standard for specific performance measures.

This is the third year IU Health Goshen Hospital has received the platinum award. The award is based on guidelines outlined by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association and recommendations for heart attack care.
