REAL Services' Foster Grandparent program accepting applications

Foster grandparents serve as role models, mentors, tutors and friends to children and youth with special needs or who are considered to be at-risk.

ELKHART — REAL Services of Elkhart County is accepting applications for the foster grandparent program. Foster grandparents serve as role models, mentors, tutors and friends to children and youth with special needs or who are considered to be at-risk.

Activities include listening to children read, talking to children, helping with assignments, reading to children and playing games while providing encouragement and affirmation.

Foster grandparents must be 55 years or older and personal transportation is recommended. Orientation will be provided. Work opportunities include 15 hours to 40 hours each week with an hourly stipend of $2.65.
