Monthly household hazardous waste collection is Saturday

The collection of household hazardous waste will take place at the Elkhart County Correctional Facility. The collection is open to all Elkhart County residents.

A household hazardous waste collection will be open to Elkhart County residents from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 3.

Accepted wastes include oil-based paints, motor oil, gasoline, pesticides, medications and household cleaners, according to a press release. Materials should be labeled in their original containers if possible.

Containers larger than 5 gallons won't be accepted. Not accepted are electronics, tires, refrigerators, dehumidifiers, latex paint and alkaline batteries.

The collection will take place at the Elkhart County Correctional Facility, 26861 C.R. 26, Elkhart.

The next scheduled collection is Saturday, June 7. For more information on what is accepted, contact solid waste management at 293-2269.
