ELKHART — Several local organization are poised and prepared to offer help if you're trying to sign up for coverage on the Obamacare health care exchange.
How's the Obamacare website working? How many are applying for coverage in Elkhart County? Your questions answered.
The online exchange, www.healthcare.gov, is meant to be the go-to spot to apply for coverage and get a glimpse of the available health care offerings. The deadline to sign up for care for 2014 is March 31.
Applying via the website is supposed to be do-it-yourself proposition, but it can be complicated, and following are some places that can offer help, free of charge:
- Elkhart General Hospital: Call the hospital's Health Coverage Enrollment Center at 524-7586 or, for Spanish-speakers, 524-7518. The email address is email@example.com.
- Heart City Health Center, Elkhart: Call Krystal Anderson at 584-7362 or, for Spanish-speakers, Jose Alvarez at 584-7369. Heart City is a non-profit clinic geared to the uninsured and low-income people.
- Indiana University Health Goshen Hospital: To set up an appointment to speak with one of the hospital's experts, call 364-2383. The hospital has also created a toll-free number offering answers to frequently asked questions at 877-566-4660. The hospital manages a website with useful information, iuhealth.org/goshen/for-patients/enroll.
- Maple City Health Care Center, Goshen: Call the non-profit clinic at 534-3300 for more information.
