Oncology center meets recertification requirements
MISHAWAKA — Michiana Hematology Oncology Advanced Centers for Cancer Care recently has met recertification requirements for Quality Oncology Practice Initiative certification.
QOPI certification must be renewed every three years; Michiana Hematology Oncology first earned the designation in early 2011.
To obtain certification, a cancer treatment center must allow an unbiased third-party panel of ASCO professionals, all oncologists, to review the entire practice. ASCO experts measure results against the world’s highest standards for technology, research, patient care and success rates.
"(Michiana Hematology Oncology) has achieved this certification by meeting QOPI’s core standards in all areas of treatment, including treatment planning, staff training, chemotherapy and drug preparation, safe chemotherapy administration, patient consent and education and the monitoring of patient well-being,” said Dr. Allen Lichter, QOPI certification program president.
