It’s cold, it’s snowy and those are both understatements. I sigh each time I hear that more snow and freezing temperatures are on their way. I hate winter! That is, until today.
On Saturday, two new puppies named Ginny and Stella came into our rescue. They had endured a long transport and were scared. They were so scared that they had to be carried in to the car and house. They cowered in their open crate and wouldn’t come out. They flinched every time we reached in to give them love. On Sunday, they ventured out and started to interact with us. They ate, they drank and they seemed more at ease.
So today, we began house training. They hesitate each time I open the door and it takes encouragement for them to step out. Once outside, Ginny and Stella discovered that they quite enjoy the snow. They romp, they play, they run and they are happy.
So, I have decided to embrace the snow, the winter and perhaps even the cold. Ginny and Stella may not have ever experienced any of these things or even life beyond puppyhood; if shelters, rescues, transporters, and fosters didn’t help them. They would have never known that they loved the snow.
Ginny and Stella are available for adoption through Heartland Small Animal Rescue (www.heartlandsmallanimalrescue.org).
