Wellfield Botanic Gardens
Wellfield Botanic Gardens is located in Elkhart and strives to teach the community about the beauty, importance and interconnectedness of nature. The gardens span 36 acres and are made up of 20 individual gardens.

Adult Programs

Yoga in the Gardens

Experience the tranquility of a relaxing hour of yoga among beautiful blooms and gentle waterfalls. Beginning on June 14, Wellfield Botanic Gardens is offering weekly weekend yoga classes. Classes are open to all levels of experience. Sessions are $7 for members and $10 for non-members. Bring a yoga mat or towel and dress comfortably. No registration is necessary.

Saturday: Class starts at 9:15 a.m. and is led by Barb Naranche from Tree of Life Yoga. If there’s rain, the class will move to the First Presbyterian Church, 200 E. Beardsley Ave. in Elkhart.

Sunday: Class starts at 3 p.m. and is led by instructors from Ray of Light Holistic Health, Inc. If there’s rain, the class will move to The Studio, 124 S. Main St. in Elkhart.


Garden to Table at Wellfield Botanic Gardens

Interested in growing your own vegetables but not sure where to start? In this series you will learn about square-foot gardening, organic garden care, harvesting your veggies and the value of seasonal cooking.

Harvesting Your Garden

When: 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2

Where: Wellfield Botanic Gardens, 1011 N. Main St., Elkhart

Description: The class will be taught by master gardener Emma Wynn

Cost: $15 per session for non-members and $10 per session for members. Registration is required and ends 24 hours before the start of the program. Call Wellfield Botanic Gardens at 574-266-2006 for more information.


Recycled Wind Chime Workshop

When: 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8

Where: Wellfield Botanic Gardens, 1011 N. Main St., Elkhart

Description: Learn to make beautiful outdoor wind chimes from recycled materials. Participants will create their own silverware wind chime to take home.

Cost: $7 for members and $10 for non-members. Supplies will be provided, but be sure to register by calling Wellfield at 574-266-2006.



Youth and Family Programs


Family Drop-In Activities

Each second and fourth Saturday of the month from June through October, you can bring the family to Wellfield Botanic Gardens and join us for fun, hands-on activities. In upcoming programs, you’ll be able to discover the world of worms, learn the wonders of water, explore plant parts and more. The activities vary from week to week and will be held in the education tent, weather permitting. Each program will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Here’s a list of the classes that are coming up: 

July 12 and 26: Fun with Water

August 9: World of Worms

September 13 and 27: For the Birds

October 11 and 25: Lovely Leaves


Stories in the Garden with Elkhart Public Library

This event will be held at 6 p.m. every third Tuesday of the month. Attendees will gather in the English Cottage Garden; if there’s rain, they’ll meet in the tented area. Bring cozy blankets to sit on. No registration is necessary, and the free events are open to all ages. Future Stories in the Garden events will be held Aug. 19, Sept. 16 and Oct. 21.


Once Upon A Time Day

When: From 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 19 (drop in any time between 1 and 3 p.m.)

Where: Wellfield Botanic Gardens, 1011 N. Main St., Elkhart

Description: Bring the family out for an afternoon of fairytale adventures. Your children can become characters from their favorite fairy tales while having fun with nature. The event is for children ages 5 to 12, who must be accompanied by an adult.

Cost: $5 per child. Register for the event by calling 574-266-2006.



Little Sprouts Cooking Class: Plant Parts Salad

When: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5

Where: Wellfield Botanic Gardens, 1011 N. Main St., Elkhart

Description: Looking for something fun to do with the kids before school starts? Bring your children to the Little Sprouts Cooking Class. Children will learn to make plant parts salad. Bring something to drink. The event is for children 5 to 12, who must be with an adult. 

Cost: $3 per child. Registration is required; call 574-266-2006 to register.



Movie in the Gardens - Shrek

When: 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3

Where: Wellfield Botanic Gardens, 1011 N. Main St., Elkhart

Description: Join us for a Sunday afternoon matinee as part of Celebrate Elkhart week. Families can enjoy Shrek in the beautiful gardens. Bring a blanket or lawn chairs. Kona Ice will be available. Thank you to our sponsors, Legacy Heating and Air, Kay McKay and Atwood Mobile Products. 

Cost: $5 for members, free for members and a suggested $1 donation for children.


Shakespeare in the Gardens

When: 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9

Where: Wellfield Botanic Gardens, 1011 N. Main St., Elkhart

Description: Wellfield Botanic Gardens is excited to once again partner with the Notre Dame Shakespeare Festival in hosting a performance by the Young Company! This year’s performance will be The Merry Wives of Windsor. There is nothing quite like enjoying a summer evening in the gardens through the brilliance of Shakespeare. We hope you’ll join us!

Cost: Free


Taste of the Gardens

When: From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23

Where: Wellfield Botanic Gardens, 1011 N. Main St., Elkhart

Description: Spend a summer day strolling through beautiful gardens, perusing fine art and listening to music. The tranquil gardens surrounding the ponds of Elkhart’s historic well field will be filled with artists exhibiting wares from impressive sculptures to exquisite jewelry. A variety of area restaurants will serve up their scrumptious fare, wine and beverages, while local musicians entertain throughout the day. For more information, visit Taste of the Gardens’ website.

Cost: $5 per person. Food and beverage tickets can be purchased separately.
