Big band and country artists lined up for outdoor concerts this summer

Here’s a list of artists to see in outdoor concerts this summer.

Music lovers in Elkhart and St. Joseph counties will have plenty of opportunities to enjoy the warm weather while listening to live music at this summer’s outdoor concerts.

Here are some of the performances scheduled:

 

Tuesday Night Concerts

Who: The Elkhart Municipal Band will perform weekly for the Elkhart Parks and Recreation Department’s Tuesday Night Concerts series.

Where: Arthur J. Singleton Band Shell in McNaughton Park, Elkhart.

When: Every Tuesday evening at 8 p.m. from June 3 to Aug. 5.

How much: Admission is free.

 

Goshen First Fridays

Who: Goshen American jam band the Tumbleweed Jumpers will perform during Goshen First Fridays in June. Progressive rock band I Am Band is lined up for July, and Goshen rock and rollers Mister Three Hearts will give a concert in August.

Where: Goshen Courthouse lawn, Main Street, Goshen

When: 7:30 p.m. June 6, 5:30 p.m. July 4, 7:30 p.m. Aug. 1.

How much: Admission is free.

 

Rhapsody in Green Festival

Who: Motown-style group Touch and Beatles tribute band BritBeat will headline the 35th annual Rhapsody in Green Festival.

Where: Island Park, Elkhart.

When: June 13-15. There will be events Friday from 5 p.m. to midnight, Saturday from noon to midnight and Sunday from noon to 8 p.m.

How much: Admission is free before 5 p.m. and $1 after Friday and Saturday. Sunday admission is free all day.

 

Wakarusa Bluegrass Festival

Who: Bluegrass artists including Rusty Nail Crossing and Patchwork Bluegrass Band will perform at Saturday’s stage show. There will be bluegrass open jam sessions Friday evening and Sunday afternoon, as well as a bluegrass gospel service Sunday morning.

Where: Open-air festival at 66425 S.R. 19 in Wakarusa.

When: June 13-15. There will be events Friday from 3 to 10 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

How much: Tickets to Saturday’s stage show are $15. Children younger than 12 and veterans with military ID have free admission. Friday and Sunday events are free and open to the public.

 

Elkhart Jazz Festival

Who: The Lena Seikaly Trio, the River Roges Jazz Band and the Tony Monaco Trio are just a few of the jazz and big band groups performing outdoor concerts as part of the Elkhart Jazz Festival.

Where: Civic Plaza, downtown Elkhart

When: June 20-22. Concerts start at 3:30 p.m. Friday and continue until midnight. There will be performances Saturday from 9 a.m. to midnight and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

How much: Admission to the outdoor portion of the Jazz Festival is free.

 

St. Joseph County 4-H Fair

There will be two performers for the St. Joseph County 4-H Fair concert series. Concerts will take place at the grandstand stage on the fairgrounds in South Bend.

Who: Country singer Randy Houser will begin the concert series. Houser is a songwriter as well and has co-written hit singles with artists including Trace Adkins and Justin Moore. Former Poison frontman Bret Michaels will also perform at the St. Joe Fair. Michaels is known for writing Poison’s No. 1 hit “Every Rose Has Its Thorn,” as well as appearing on various reality shows such as “Rock of Love with Bret Michaels.”

When: June 30 at 9 p.m.

How much: Tickets for Randy Houser: grandstand general admission tickets are $18. Reserved track seating is $28. Tickets for Bret Michaels: grandstand general admission tickets are $28. Reserved track seating is $39.

 

Independence Day Celebration

Who: South Bend artists Rachel and the Bluerays will perform at the Elkhart Parks and Recreation Independence Day Celebration. The band and lead singer Rachel Eichhorn play soul, blues and pop music.

Where: Rice Field at Elkhart Central High School.

When: Gates open at 7 p.m. July 4. If the event is rained out, it will be rescheduled to July 5.

How much: Admission is $1 per person.

 

Elkhart County 4-H Fair concert series

There will be five concerts in the 2014 Elkhart County 4-H Fair series, which runs July 19 to 23 at the Main Stage on the fairgrounds in Goshen. Admission to the fair is $8 at the gate, and children younger than nine years old get in free. Here are the artists lined up for the series:

Who: Rock band 3 Doors Down will be the first performance of the 2014 concert series. The band is known for its alternative rock singles such as “Kryptonite” and “When I’m Gone.”

When: July 19 at 8 p.m.

How much: Grandstand seating is free. Reserved track seats are $30.

 

Who: Christian singer Francesca Battistelli, known for her Christian pop singles such as “I’m Letting Go” and “Free to Be Me” will perform.

When: July 20 at 8 p.m.

How much: Grandstand seating and track seats are free.

 

Who: Country singer Tyler Farr will perform with special guest Parmalee.

When: July 21 at 8 p.m.

How much: Grandstand seating is free. Reserved track seats are $30.

 

Who: Country singer Danielle Bradbery will perform with special guests the Swon Brothers. Bradbery came in first place on season 4 of NBC’s singing competition “The Voice” in 2013 and is the youngest-ever winner of the competition.

When: July 22 at 8 p.m.

How much: Grandstand seating is free. Reserved track seats are $30.

 

Who: Country singer-songwriter Justin Moore will wrap up the concert series with special guest Joey Hyde.

When: July 23 at 8 p.m.

How much: Grandstand seating is free. Reserved track seats are $30.

 

Music in the Park

Who: The Jazz Assemblage will give the first performance in this two-concert series of big band music, followed by Truth in Jazz the next week.

Where: Arthur J. Singleton Band Shell in McNaughton Park, Elkhart.

When: The Jazz Assemblage will perform at 7 p.m. Aug. 12 and Truth in Jazz will perform at the same time Aug. 19.

How much: Admission is free.
