    Mother's Day 2014: What's happening in Michiana on Sunday

    From garden tours to canoe rides, there are many ways to spend time with your mother this Mother's Day.

    Mother's Day is Sunday.

    Whether you want to see a historic house or bunches of flowers, here are some activities offered for moms and families this Mother's Day.

     

    Mother's Day at the Garden

    Time: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

    Where: Wellfield Botanic Gardens, 1011 N. Main St.

    Admission: $5, kids 12 and younger are free (A coupon for one free admission is available online.)

    Tour the gardens at 1 or 3 p.m. or play cornhole, croquet or bocce ball. Plants will be for sale.

    Story time with the Elkhart Public Library will be at 1 and 2 p.m.

     

    Ruthmere Museum

    Time: 1, 2, 3 p.m.

    Address: 302 E. Beardsley Ave.

    Admission: Adults $10, students $4, children younger than 5 admitted free with an adult

    Tour the historic house Sunday. Mothers get in free for the guided tours.

     

    Fernwood Botanical Garden and Nature Preserve

    Time: Noon to 6 p.m.

    Where: 13988 Range Line Road, Niles, Mich.

    Admission: Adults $7, seniors (65 and older) $5, ages 13-18 $4, ages 6-12 $3, Children 5 and younger and member free

    On Sunday, women will be given free plants.

    Face painting will be offered from 1 to 4 p.m. for $2. There will also be a walking tour at 2 p.m. and children's activities from 1 to 5 p.m.

     

    Mother’s Day Canoe & Cookies

    When: 9 to 11 a.m.

    Where: St. Patrick’s County Park, Brown Barn

    Cost: $20/canoe

    Canoe down the St. Joseph River with your mom, followed by a time to indulge in some cookies and milk.

    Equipment and instruction will be provided.

    Note: Registration and payment must be submitted by May 8.
