Council on Aging announces Senior of the Year nominees

The winner of the inaugural contest will be announced at the council's Crystal Ball Gala on Friday, April 25.

ELKHART – Nominations are in for the 2014 Elkhart County Senior of the Year competition hosted by the Council on Aging of Elkhart County.

The competition was organized as a way to recognize an outstanding senior member in the community, according to a press release.

The 2014 nominees are:

  • Carol Bizzel of Elkhart
  • Carl Detwiler of Nappanee
  • Wanda Hoffman of Goshen
  • Kim Huffman of Goshen
  • Helen Koller of Elkhart
  • Carol Tarnecy Laidlaw of Elkhart
  • Plez Lovelady of Elkhart
  • Richard Osborne of Elkhart

To qualify, nominees must be at least 60 years old, reside in Elkhart County, be a positive role model and participate in activities like civic engagement, creative arts, technology or innovation.

The winner will be announced at the Crystal Swing Gala at 6:30 p.m. April 25 at the Crystal Ballroom in the Lerner Theatre.

Tickets for the gala are $100 per person or $700 for a table of eight. Proceeds benefit local seniors. To purchase tickets contact the council’s office at 295-1820.
