The Comedy Criminals Improv Festival brought four improv troupes and a packed house to laugh and raise money for the Elkhart Civic Theatre at the Bristol Opera House Saturday, April 5.

For more than two hours onstage, four different groups used audience suggestions and their training to create comedy theater.

Sheboygan from Chicago, Main on Main from Syracuse, Funraisers Inc. from Granger and ComedySportz Indianapolis performed about 30 minutes each before a sold-out crowd of nearly 200. Those four groups had advanced from an initial night of competition on March 29 that had eight groups.

The event featured four celebrity judges, but also allowed the audience to vote as well. The judges were Gordy Young of WNIT, Michael Linville of WVPE, Jessica Hardy of Chicago Comedy Theater Festival (and Elkhart Civic Theater alumna) and Marshall King of The Elkhart Truth.

At the end of the evening, Main on Main was declared the winner for its series of sketches.

Elkhart Civic Theater organizers said they plan on doing the event again next year and have set dates as May 2 and May 9, 2015.
