1. Santa's Pantry and Pay it Forward 4-H Club chili dinner fundraiser for Cub Scout Pack 762

Santa's Pantry, a local non-profit, and Pay It Forward 4-H Club will host a chili dinner fundraiser for a local cub scout pack whose former cubmaster stole $5,000 from the group last year. The event will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 4, at Eastwood Elementary School, 53215 C.R. 15.

Cub Scout Pack 762 lost a year's worth of funds that were raised selling popcorn last year. The money would have been used for uniforms and to pay for camp.

2. 'Green Day Frolic' at Goshen's First Friday

Goshen First Fridays: Green Day Frolic

Goshen's theme for this month's First Friday is 'Green Day Frolic', which will highlight how environmentally-friendly the city is. The event will include a 5K run, a 2K fun walk and a farmer's market. Goshen stores, such as Ten Thousand Villages, will also be selling environmentally-friendly products.

There will also be a release party for "Goshen Graphix II" at Better World Books, a graphic novel anthology with stories that are written and illustrated by students at Goshen College. The writers will be present to discuss the artistic and narrative decisions that goes into illustrating their comics. 

3. River Bend Film Festival

The sixth annual River Bend Film Festival in South Bend will continue into the weekend, featuring a variety of movie genres from animated films to documentaries. One of the highlights of the festival this year is 'Sand Castles', a gritty drama that was filmed in Goshen in 2012. You can still catch 'Sand Castles' on the last day of the River Bend Film Festival on Saturday, April 5.

4. 'The Marriage of Figaro' at Goshen College

The Marriage of Figaro

If you are looking to catch a theatre performance instead, look no further than Goshen College's production of Mozart's comic opera "The Marriage of Figaro". The performance is about Count Almavira's courtship of his head servant Figaro's bride-to-be, Susanna. 

The performance will begin at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. on Sunday at the Goshen Umble Center. Tickets are priced at $12 or $7 for students, seniors and Goshen College employees.

5. 'The Wiz' at the South Bend Civic Theatre

If you're not feeling up to Mozart this weekend, you can always catch South Bend Civic Theatre's production of 'The Wiz' this weekend. The musical is a modern interpretation of L. Frank Baum's 'The Wonderful Wizard of Oz' and is heavily influenced by African American culture. You can buy tickets for shows at 7:30 p.m on Friday, April 4, and Saturday, April 5, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 6. Tickets are priced at $21.

6. Free Family Sundays at the Ruthmere house

However, if you're more interested in local history, you can visit the historic Ruthmere house for free on Sunday, April 6. Visitors will be able to get a glimpse into the lives of wealthy Elkhart pioneers, Albert and Elizabeth Beardsley, by walking through the beautiful rooms of the property located on 302 East Beardsley Avenue. The house was first built in 1908 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. To find out more about the Ruthmere house, visit their official website

7. International Tabletop Game Day at Better World Books

Tabletop game enthusiasts will be gathering at Better World Books for International Tabletop Game Day in Goshen on Saturday, April 5. Participants are encouraged to bring their friends and tabletop games to the bookstore. If you do not own any games of your own, Better World Books also has demo games for visitors who want to learn and play a new game.

8. 'Book the Bend' at South Bend's First Fridays

The theme for this month's First Friday in South Bend is 'Book the Bend', a book-themed event with a variety of activities including live music and a hip hop dance party. A number of stores will be offering discounts for books, meals and beverages, such as Marigold's, Starbucks and Just Goods. 9. The 10th Annual Race-O-Rama at Concord Mall

Looking for something a little more fast-paced? The 10th Annual Race-O-Rama will bring vintage race cars, dragsters, show cars and trucks to the Concord Mall in Elkhart from Friday, April 4, to Sunday, April 6.
