ELKHART – At its annual volunteer appreciation event on Feb. 8, Habitat for Humanity of Elkhart County was presented with the Malachi 3:10 Award.

The award was given by Habitat for Humanity International and recognizes a $500,000 lifetime tithe milestone, according to a press release.

The award is named after a Bible verse, which says, ““Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that it may be food in my house. Test me in this and see if I do not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.”

Over its 27-year history, the organization has tithed more than $530,000. Only 6 percent of Habitat for Humanity affiliates have received the award.

Through tithing, Habitat Elkhart County has assisted more than 200 families in the Dominican Republic.
