ELKHART — For the first time, Styx will headline a concert at the Lerner Theatre.

The popular classic rock band will make a stop in downtown Elkhart with Head East on April 3, and tickets go on sale this month.

Styx, known for songs like “Come Sail Away” and “Mr. Roboto,” formed in suburban Chicago in the 70s. The group played at the 2012 Elkhart County 4-H Fair in Goshen.

Styx had four consecutive multi-platinum albums starting in 1975 with “Crystal Ball,” “The Grand Illusion,” “Pieces of Eight” and “Cornerstone.” The band’s hit singles include “The Grand Illusion,” “Babe” and “Too Much Time on my Hands” among others.

Led by founding member, singer and keyboardist Roger Boyd, Head East formed in the late 70s in St. Louis, Mo. The band released its breakthrough album, “Flat as a Pancake,” on A&M Records. Head East has three sold out appearances at the Morris Performing Arts Center in South Bend. In December, the group was part of a tornado relief concert in Bloomington, Ill., sharing the stage with Styx, REO Speedwagon and Ted Nugent.
