GOSHEN — Hosting its first artists from the Windy City, Ignition Garage welcomes Birds of Chicago with special guest Chicago Farmer this weekend to downtown Goshen.
Who is Birds of Chicago? With songwriting inspired by a quirky mix of Mark Twain and Sam Cooke, Birds of Chicago has been touring from coast to coast, making appearances at large music festivals and recording live radio sessions. The band is fronted by JT Nero of the Chicago rock and soul band JT and the Clouds and Allison Russell of the Canadian urban folk group Po’ Girl. The Chicago Sun-Times has described them as “two of the most compelling new voices on the Americana music scene.” The group’s self-titled album released in 2012 spent more than 10 weeks in the CMJ Top 200 chart.
Who is Chicago Farmer? Chicago Farmer singer Cody Diekhoff grew up in a small town more than 150 miles southwest of the Windy City, where he has lived since 2003. His latest release, “Backenforth, IL,” has been called “the centerpiece of his sixth collection of Guthrie-inspired populist songs.”
You might enjoy Birds of Chicago and Chicago Farmer if you listen to: Mandolin Orange, Hurray for the Riff Raff and John Prine.
When are they playing? Showtime is 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23.
Where is Ignition Garage? 120 E. Washington St. in downtown Goshen.
