GOSHEN — A local church is inviting the community to walk in memory of a young philanthropist.

The Pumpkinvile Peace Walk on Saturday is part of the 3,000 Miles for Peace Campaign, a worldwide effort to fufill the vision of Paul Ziegler. Ziegler was an avid biker who had a goal of riding 3,000 miles across the United States to raise funds and awareness for peacemaking. He died while riding his bike in September 2012.

“Individuals and congregations across the country are walking, riding and reaching out to raise $300,000 to support the violence-prevention programs of On Earth Peace,” said Steve Norton, pastor of outreach at Goshen City Church of the Brethren.

Anyone interested in participating can join the congregation on the Pumpkinvine Peace Walk, which begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 27. Registration is at 8 a.m. at Goshen City Church of the Brethern, 203 N. 5th St. in Goshen. Walking routes ranging from 2.8 miles to 13.6 miles will be available. Walkers will be asked to donate a registration fee of at least $10 to support the 3,000 Miles for Peace Campaign.
