obesity, smoking, diabetes and access to primary care and mental health services are the five major community health concerns, according to a recently released study by Purdue University.
“For some time now, IU Health Goshen has been shifting toward population health management — keeping our residents healthy instead of largely caring for them when they’re sick,” says Randy Christophel, president and CEO of IU Health Goshen.
He pointed out that changing behaviors that lead to an unhealthy lifestyle is complicated, but said it’s something the health system is qualified to tackle. “It is incumbent upon IU Health Goshen to do what it can to improve the health of our local communities. That will always be our purpose,” he said.
