American Academy of Family Physicians Foundation will honor Kevin P. Kaufhold, M.D., for his commitment to education in family medicine.

Kaufhold is one of 12 physicians — chosen from across 400 family medicine programs nationwide — selected to receive the 2012 Pfizer Teacher Development Award based on scholastic achievement, leadership qualities and dedication to family medicine. The award recognizes outstanding, community-based family physicians that combine clinical practice with part-time teaching of family medicine, and provides funding for recipients to attend an activity of choice to further professional development and teaching skills. Nominations are reviewed and scored by an AAFP Foundation-appointed panel.

Kaufhold is a volunteer preceptor with the Family Medicine Residency Program at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center and a family medicine physician at the Granger campus of the South Bend Clinic.

“The Pfizer Teacher Development Award spotlights the best of our profession: those in active practice who give of themselves to teach, mentor, and inspire residents and students. My congratulations to Dr. Kaufhold and my thanks to Pfizer for preserving the noble tradition of the clinician-teacher,” said AAFP Foundation president Mary Jo Welker, M.D.
