Diabetes awareness screenings planned
The Diabetes Resource Center at United Health Services will present two events in November in honor of Diabetes Awareness Month.
Free glucose testing will take place Nov. 15 at Mishawaka-Penn-Harris Public Library, 209 Lincoln Way East. Nurse Julie Englert will discuss the basics of diabetes and how to prevent or delay progression complications from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., and staff will provide glucose testing from 5:30 to 6:30 and 7:30 to 8 p.m. Attendants with diabetes will receive a box of testing lancets.
The center is also teaming up with Michiana Family YMCA to offer discounted medical tests from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 17 at Michiana Family YMCA, 1201 Northside Blvd. The event, “Know Your Important Numbers,” will provide lipid panel testing — total cholesterol, cholesterol, LDL, HDL, triglycerides and blood glucose. Blood pressure, pulse and body mass index will also be recorded. Attendants can have all tests performed for $50.
Testing requires fasting; RSVP by Friday. To register call 247-6047, ext. 107.
