A visit to Our Brewing Company

Posted on May 30, 2013 at 1:00 a.m. | Updated on May 30, 2013 at 1:42 p.m.

SignIf you are planning to visit New Holland Brewing Company for their Mad Hatter Party (see previous post), let me also suggest that you step just a few doors down to Holland's newest brewpub on the block.  Last October I visited Our Brewing Company, just before they opened.  Now, a little more than half a year later, things are going well for Trevor Doublestein and his new brewery.

I stopped in last Saturday early afternoon, however, I should have checked the hours on the website before stopping.  Luckily I had contacted Trevor before showing up, and I found him in his basement brewhouse, kegging off a new Belgian Pater (4.5% ABV, IBUs 20).  Even though it was quite cloudy and not yet carbonated, we sampled a bit and it was quite tasty.

Just so that you don't do the same thing that I did, I'm going to post their hours right here:  Friday-Saturday: 3 p.m. – Midnight, and Sunday: 2 p.m. – 10 p.m.   Trevor does hope to add a few more hours to their schedule soon.

Trevor Owner/brewer Trevor Doublestein

Since my last visit, Trevor has added a three barrel system.  For now, he is brewing on this system every other day, and three times each day on his 1/2 barrel system.  This provides him with the 16 kegs that he blows through each weekend.

Handlebar Hopstache DIPA Our Brewing Company Handlebar Hopstache double IPA

While touring the brewhouse, I enjoyed a Handlebar Hopstache double IPA (8.8% ABV, IBUs 242-ish).  This was very enjoyable and extremely drinkable for such high IBUs.  Recently I've been drinking some real palate wreckers, and this was much easier on the palate.  Trevor used several varietals of hops both in the boil and dry hopping to lend very nice floral and piney flavors to this brew.

The brewpub continues to live up to it's name and philosophy on Wednesday evenings which is homebrew night.  A drawing is taken of those present for suggested styles.  And if it works into the winner's schedule, they can be present during the brewing of their chosen style.

Since Trevor is brewing small batches, the tap turn over is fairly fluid, changing often in the same evening.  Here is what was on tap at opening time last Saturday.

There are a few tables out front, and just recently they have been able to add a beer garden out back.  These are both great places to enjoy their beer on a warm summer's evening.
