Antique tractor clubs “Pulling Together to Cure Cancer” in Nappanee
Local tractor clubs are “Pulling Together to Cure Cancer” this weekend in Nappanee with an antique tractor cruise-in.
The cruise-in is a fundraiser for United Cancer Services of Elkhart County, a nonprofit organization that offers financial support to cancer patients and their families.
Three antique tractor clubs, Nappanee Power from the Past, Kosciusko County’s Echoes of the Past and the Northern Indiana Johnny Poppers, joined United Cancer and Coppes Commons in Nappanee to raise money through donations.
Rod Meyers of Power from the Past said the clubs hope to make this an annual fundraiser for United Cancer. Because it’s the first time for this event, Meyers said, they don’t have a set fundraising goal.
“We don’t have a projection,” he said, adding, “I don’t think we’re going to be disappointed.”
The cruise-in will start at 10 a.m. Saturday at Coppes Commons at 401 E. Market St. in Nappanee. Tractor drivers will take a 10-mile cruise around the countryside and then park at the Coppes Commons to display their classic tractors.
There will be hay rides around the Coppes Commons grounds from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., as well as a hay ride shuttle through downtown Nappanee. Drivers will also take part in a shorter cruise around downtown Goshen starting at 1 p.m.
A spokesperson at Coppes Commons said the tractor clubs plan to pass around a traveling trophy each year to whoever raises the most money.
“We wanted to try to do something philanthropic and something to kind of give back to the community,” Meyers said.
Tractor owners can register at the event or online at the official website for Nappanee Power from the Past.
