The Middlebury Town Council approved an interlocal agreement on Monday, April 7, to loop water mains on the southeast end of town in and around the Jayco campus to improve water pressure and quality.
The agreement -- among the Elkhart County Redevelopment Commission, the Middlebury Redevelopment Commission and the town council -- commits tax increment financing funds from the town’s Elroy Drive TIF district to the project, with the fund’s $93,000 balance to be used initially. The fund will also reimburse Jayco over time for $187,625 that the company will contribute upfront for the project.
The county redevelopment commission will contribute $275,000 from the Middlebury Southeast TIF district toward the improvements. The Elkhart County Council will consider the agreement on Saturday, April 12.
Also during the meeting:
• The council heard about a collaborative effort to build a new trail called Ridge Run Trail that would connect to the Pumpkinvine near the U.S. 20 tunnel and run nearly a mile through property owned by That Pretty Place Bed and Breakfast and Das Dutchman Essenhaus to the Wayne Avenue trail. Connectors would run to IU Goshen Health, Greencroft of Middlebury and the Essenhaus. The Friends of Middlebury Parks are submitting a grant application for the trail on behalf of the interested parties to the Elkhart County Community Foundation.
• Council President Gary O’Dell announced that town cleanup will take place April 10-12 at the Public Works facility on York Drive. Town residents can bring most unwanted items for disposal, but paints, solvents and appliances containing freon will not be accepted. Gas and oil should be drained from machinery.
• O’Dell announced that the Middlebury Community Library will host a Community Shred Day from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 12. Participants can shred up to five banker’s boxes of documents free of charge.
The community Easter egg hunt will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 19, at Memorial Park and the Middlebury Fire Department.
