Goshen residents will soon get the chance to have their questions answered about impending construction on C.R. 38 and Kercher Bridge.

The Elkhart County Highway Department will host a public information meeting about the plans at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, in the auditorium of Goshen Middle School, 1216 S. Indiana Ave.

Current plans are for C.R. 38 between C.R. 17 and Island View Drive on the southwest side of Goshen (see map below).

    Tentative work includes:

    • Replacing Kercher Bridge, the bridge over the Elkhart River
    • Providing wider travel lanes and paved shoulders
    • Adding a center turn lane from Orchard Drive to the east

The project is tentatively expected to be bid on in July 2015 with completion in the fall of 2016. Utility relocation and right-of-way issues may require this schedule to change, according to a press release.

Jay Grossman, engineer for the county, emphasized in an email Friday, June 6, that plans aren't set in stone yet, and elements like right-of-way lines are likely to move based on future project design and comments received at the upcoming meeting.
