GOSHEN — Need a new roof? Maybe some new windows? Perhaps your house needs insulation or siding installed.
LaCasa may be able to assist some qualifying homeowners with certain improvements.
The non-profit affordable housing organization is currently accepting applications for its annual Help-A-House program.
The program is open to residents of Goshen or seniors throughout Elkhart County that fall below 80 percent of the area's gross median income.
Help-A-House operates with funding received from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development through the city's Community Development Block Grant.
Those who wish to apply can either pick up an application at LaCasa's offices at 202 N. Cottage Ave., or call 533-4450 to have an application mailed to their home.
Once LaCasa receives an application, the organization schedules an inspection to determine which of the items applied for can be accomplished through volunteer work.
Hundreds of individuals volunteer every year to help complete projects including replacing windows, repairing roofs or installing siding.
LaCasa will be accepting applications through the end of March, but the program operates on a first-come, first-served basis and families should apply as soon as possible.
Rocio Arevalo-Espinosa, LaCasa's director of client services, said Help-A-House generally helps between 10 and 16 families per year, depending on funding and costs of each project.
Individuals that want to volunteer can do so by contacting Kate Irelan at email@example.com or 533-4450 ext. 17.
