GOSHEN — To ensure reliable trash removal in the midst of large amounts of snow, the city has reminded residents to make sure their trash is accessible on the day it is to be picked up.

The mayor's office sent a press release instructing trash cans and bags need to be within 5 feet of the edge of the road or alley. Trash will not be collected, even if it is within 5 feet, if it is behind or in snow piles.

Due to safety concerns, collectors are instructed not to climb into or over piles of snow to retrieve trash.

Special attention should be paid after trash has been set out to make sure new snow does not bury the cans or bags.

The release also reminded residents to have their trash out by 6:30 a.m. the day of collection and may be placed no earlier than the evening before.

No electronic waste will be collected because of changes in rules at the Elkhart County Landfill. Examples are computers, televisions, etc.

If trash has been missed residents may call Republic Services at 522-1331.
