To make snow removal more effective, an emergency parking order will go into effect in Goshen on Monday, Feb. 3.
The order, activated by Mayor Allan Kauffman on Friday, Feb. 1, means drivers who want to use on-street parking must park on a particular side of the street, depending on the date. For odd-numbered days, like Monday, drivers must park on the side of the street that has odd-numbered addresses. (On Main Street in downtown Goshen, for example, drivers should park on the west side of the street on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.)
On even-numbered days, drivers should park on the side with even-numbered addresses. (On Main Street in downtown Goshen, for example, drivers would park on the east side of the street on Tuesday and Thursday.)
Kauffman advised in a news release that drivers, where possible, should park off the street. The street department, he said, needs to push snow further back because of a forecast for significant snowfall starting Tuesday. If streets aren't widened, two-way traffic won't be possible.
Residents are asked to help spread the word by telling friends and neighbors.
