IUSB jazz director plays with Central High School for 2014 Elkhart Jazz Festival

IUSB Jazz Ensemble director Darrel Tidaback plays the stand-up bass, and he’ll be playing with Elkhart Central High School during the Jazz Festival on Saturday, June 21.

"What drew me to jazz is the freedom of expression. To say what I want to say at that moment in that piece of music,“ Tidaback said.

As for playing with Central’s All Star Jazz group, he said he wants younger musicians to experience the magic of playing in a group.

"When you play in a group, there’s this...” he paused, waiving his hands in the air and searching for the right words.“Vulcan mind meld that happens amongst the players. When it’s really on, it’s an experience like no other.”
