Not everyone could wait until Friday for the convergence of jazz talent into downtown Elkhart during this weekend’s Elkhart Jazz Festival. Thanks to the Elkhart Municipal Band they didn't have to.

The Tuesday night free concert series continued at McNaughton Park in Elkhart on June 18. Listeners relaxed in lawn chairs or sprawled out on the grass as soloist Chris French performed number after number of jazz alongside the concert band.

“This is always my most favorite week out of the entire year,” said French.

French, who also teaches saxophone and clarinet at Goshen College, Indiana University South Bend and St. Mary’s College has been performing at the Elkhart Jazz Festival for more than 10 years.  He will be playing with VibeNation and Truth in Jazz during the festival this weekend.

If you missed the Elkhart Municipal Band’s jazz concert Tuesday, you can catch a repeat performance Thursday, June 19, at the Lerner Theatre in Elkhart. Alto-saxophone soloist Mike Smith will perform. The concert is free and starts at 7:15 pm.

The original version of this story included an incorrect concert time. It has been updated and is now correct.
