ELKHART — Mayor Dick Moore will host a news conference at 9 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, to discuss the Garfield Avenue incident.

Moore announced plans for the event Wednesday morning, Aug. 20.

The news conference will be conducted in council chambers at city hall, 229 S. Second St.

Moore has been waiting for community input on the strife that arose on the Fourth of July weekend after a police officer was attacked. Police arrested a 21-year-old man in connection with the attack, but residents claimed they faced increased patrols and harassment afterward.

Representatives of Elkhart Community Roundtable submitted proposals last week for improving community relations with police, but Moore responded with a statement questioning the level of support for the proposals.
