An upcoming community festival will offer free food and entertainment for a good cause.

The Tolson Center Community and Youth Center is hoping to collect more than 800 pounds of donated food at this weekend’s 2nd Annual Food Drive and Elkhart County Youth Fest.

The event is Saturday, July 26, from noon to 6 p.m.

Activities will be provided by a variety of community groups, including Child and Parent Services of Elkhart County, LaCasa Inc., Ruthmere Museum, Woodlawn Nature Center, the Indiana National Guard, Athletes N Motion and the Elkhart Environmental Center.

There will also be free hot dogs, popcorn and drinks.

Performances will include the BAD Entertainment Dance Team, the Tolson Majestics, Black Pepper Band, Magician Steve Vaught and Concord and IU dance teams.

Ronald McDonald will make a guest appearance at 1 p.m.

“It’s going to be a jam-packed day of everybody in the community at one place and one time,” said Rechica Lynn Ledesma, Tolson program coordinator.

Last year’s event drew more than 500 people, she said.

Entry is free, but attendees are asked to bring non-perishable food items for the drive, which will benefit food banks across the county.

The event will be at 1320 Benham Ave., Elkhart.
