Not every parade takes place on Main Street.

Local boaters took to the water Friday afternoon, July 4, for the 38th Annual Upper St. Joseph River Flotilla.

Decorated boats traveled single-file down the river, starting at the Six Span Bridge and ending up at Martin’s Landing.

Some teams were awarded cash prizes for their decorations.

First place: “Swan River” by Pat Welch, Mallory Welch Merril Welch, Jeannie Oren, Bruce Tenner, North West, Kaitlin Seger and Liz Ladawicz.

Second place: “World Cup Soccer” by Tyson Pletcher, Lisa Pletcher, Kim Pletcher, Kay Pletcher, Rich May and Kris May.

Third place: “Happy Faces” by Glenn and Mary Whit and their family, Joe Elias and his family, Jeff and Lena Bluett and their family, Andy Gross and Diana Gross.

Jim Pettit Most Patriotic Award: “We the People” by Ron Downs and his family. The award is named after Jim Pettit, a longtime flotilla supporter who passed away in 2010.
