A dance group featuring an Elkhart native received rave reviews from the celebrity judges of “America’s Got Talent” Sunday evening.

Mothmen Dance, a dance and aerial acrobat group, was unanimously voted through to the next round of competition by judges Howard Stern, Heidi Klum, Mel B and Howie Mandel in the episode which aired on Sunday, June 22.

"It was the pinnacle of my career so far,“ said Elkhart Central graduate Jason Whicker. Whicker is president of the Indianapolis-based On the FLY Productions, which manages the Mothmen group, and is also one of the performers.

"Everyone in the house was standing up, including the judges,” he said. “It was breathtaking and awe-inspiring.”

The next step for the Mothmen is the “judgment round,” in which the judges trim down the field to the top 48 acts, Whicker said. These acts will proceed to the live voting rounds, where viewers can vote for their favorite acts each week.

Since the show aired, Whicker said he has received positive feedback and support from people back home in Elkhart.

"A lot of people from the past have found me on Facebook,“ he said. ”There has been a lot of reconnection with people from way, way back.”

"A lot of people are very excited and very enthused about watching the journey continue,” he said.
