For the next two weeks, drivers heading north into Elkhart will have to find an alternate route to what is already a detour for the Elkhart overpass construction project.

According to the Elkhart City Public Works and Utilities Department, Indiana Avenue, between Benham Avenue and Prairie Street, will be closed to traffic June 10. The road will be closed for two weeks for paving.

Traffic heading north on main will be detoured west onto Lusher Avenue and then north onto Benham Avenue, according to a news release from the public works and utilities department.

Indiana Avenue was already a detour for drivers heading north on Main Street who couldn’t get through to downtown Elkhart because of the ongoing overpass construction project. The closure on Main Street, which goes north from Indiana Avenue to Willard Street, will last until Dec. 1.

Indiana Avenue was closed at least part of Tuesday and Wednesday, June 3 and 4, for work on the road.
