ELKHART — Sections of Main and Prairie streets are closing for the Prairie Street railroad overpass construction.
As of Tuesday, June 3, Main Street between Indiana Avenue and Willard Street and Prairie Street between Park Avenue and Stocker Court will be closed through approximately Nov. 15. The detour will run from Indiana Avenue and onto Benham Avenue.
Rieth-Riley Construction of Goshen will be removing the road and placing new underground utilities in the roads.
The $10.15 million project includes construction of an overpass over the Norfolk Southern Railroad rail line that crosses Prairie Street between Main and Middlebury streets southeast of the city center.
The first stages of construction preparation starting rolling out May 30, when sign started popping up and demolition was underway.
