Elkhart's Rock the Block returns June 7 on Cleveland Avenue
ELKHART — Rock the Block, a neighborhood cleanup project organized by LaCasa, Inc., will enter its second year next month.
On June 7, volunteers will focus on a stretch of Cleveland Avenue between Prairie Street and Benham Avenue on Elkhart’s south side, according to Jason Moreno, a community organizer for LaCasa.
Rock the Block began last year and relies on volunteers.
The start time for the Cleveland Avenue project is 9 a.m., and the gathering spot this year will be at Agape Missionary Baptist Church on Wolf Avenue, just south of the work area.
A lunch for volunteers is planned at the church, Moreno said.
Moreno said he’s hoping to have about 80 volunteers lend their support for the project, and that organizers could still use donations for refreshments.
Another group, Builders of Hope, will be working on repairing a roof in the same immediate area and could use volunteers.
