The slideshow of heartwarming pictures and fresh faces singing about measuring a year is what most will remember from the United Way of Elkhart County's annual luncheon.

But those moments wouldn't have happened without the people who work all year to support the United Way and its mission in Elkhart County.

The organization recognized those individuals during the luncheon on Thursday, April 24.

"This is a celebration — it's a celebration of what we accomplish together when we live united," Bill Rieth, president and CEO of the United Way of Elkhart County, said.

Dottie Arnold was chosen as the Arthur J. Decio Volunteer of the Year. She's volunteered for many years not only with the United Way, but also with Church Community Services, Wellfield Botanic Garden, the Elkhart Jazz Festival, the Samaritan Center, the Elkhart County Symphony, CAPS and others.

Arnold was not at the luncheon, but her friend and fellow volunteer Ginny Russell accepted the award on her behalf.

Also receiving awards was AdStream, Kirk Root, Nautic, Supreme, Wells Fargo Insurance, Pletcher Motors, Salvation Army Goshen, Salvation Army Elkhart, Faegre Baker, Foremost Fabricators, Oaklawn, Meijer, Nappanee Public Library, Barnes & Thornburg, People's Federal Bank, JC Penny, TCB, Keystone, Elkhart General Hospital, NIBCO, Heartland RV, Heritage Financial, Skyline, CTS, IU Health Goshen and Thor Industries.

Alex Strati received the Live United award.

The Goshen High School Crimsonaires group closed out the event by singing "Seasons of Love" from the musical "Rent."
