ELKHART — Good things come to those who wait.

Elkhart native Jessica Hardy learned that lesson at a taping of “The Price is Right.” She was a contestant on the classic game show and didn’t have much luck during the first half of an episode that aired Tuesday, April 8, but she eventually danced her way on stage, winning three exciting trips that will take her around the world.

Hardy, who grew up in Elkhart and lives in Los Angeles, won the showcase with prizes including glamorous vacations to Cancun, Mexico; Rome, Italy; and Beijing, China. Her friends and family organized a watch party Tuesday at Concord Mall.

Hardy, an actress who runs the Chicago Comedy Film Festival, happened to be in town because she helped judge the Comedy Criminals improv competition this past weekend at Elkhart Civic Theatre. At the party, she wore her “Price is Right” name tag and the same neon yellow T-shirt she wore on the show with a line drawing of Indiana and a star identifying her hometown, Elkhart.

Hardy, her husband and his parents went to a taping of the show in February. Hardy tried her best to estimate the prices of kitchen appliances, iPads and other prizes. She eventually guessed right and made her way to host Drew Carey to play a game and spin the famous “Price is Right” wheel.

“The whole time I was having so much fun with everyone around me, so I didn’t even think about the outcome until I got up there to spin the wheel, and I spun 90 cents,” Hardy said.

Hardy said she wasn’t nervous because as an actress in Los Angeles she is comfortable in front of cameras.

“She’s an actress, and she’s a comedy person, so she’s really bubbly, personable and animated,” said Brent Kado, Hardy’s husband of eight years.

Of the three vacations Hardy won, she said she is most excited about the trip to Rome.

“It was really surreal,” she said. “I don’t think it hit me until later on in the show, but it was amazing.”
