Homeward Bound 5K walk and run to raise funds for Elkhart County's homeless

The Homeward Bound 5K walk and run will support seven local organizations working to end homelessness around Elkhart County.

ELKHART – A 5K walk and run being held this weekend will benefit seven agencies that help Elkhart County's homeless community.

The event is part of Homeward Bound, a statewide series of walks supporting Indiana organizations that provide shelter, health services and affordable housing to homeless people in their areas. The series, which is Indiana's largest grassroots fundraiser, was started by the Indiana Association for Community Economic Development (IACED), a news release from the organization said.

All of the proceeds from Elkhart's walk on Saturday, March 22, will go to Church Community ServicesHabitat for Humanity of Elkhart County; LaCasa, Inc.; Goshen Interfaith Hospitality Network; iFiT: Individuals and Families in Transition; Faith Mission of Elkhart; and the Minority Health Coalition.

Participating in the walk calls for a minimum donation $5, Homeward Bound's website said. Attendees will get an official walk T-shirt with a $25 donation. 

The walk will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 22, at the Elkhart Youth and Community Center, located at 200 E. Jackson Blvd. in Elkhart. The course runs along the Elkhart River.
