Two key railroad crossings will be closed for several hours near downtown Elkhart Tuesday.
A news release from the city of Elkhart on Monday said the Prairie Street crossing and the Main Street crossing would be closed for three or four hours, but did not include a specific time.
The closings are needed for work on the railroad by Norfolk and Southern.
As a result, the best alternative route will be the Benham Avenue underpass located to the west of Main Street.
South-bound traffic on Main Street can reach the underpass by turning right on Marion Street, which is just north of the tracks.
North-bound traffic on Main can turn left on several street south of the tracks to reach Benham.
