Traffic is backed up near U.S. 33 while a train is stopped at Hively Avenue and two railroad crossing gates are down at C.R. 13 (Lewis Street) and C.R. 15 (Ferndale Road).

An employee with Norfolk Southern said the gates are likely down because of a broken rail or a broken wire, and that other gates may also be down in the area. He added that this is a common issue when it gets very cold out. When a rail or wire breaks, the gates go down to protect the crossings.

It is unknown when the issue will be resolved or when the gates will go back up.

Drivers in the area should not go around the gates. Instead, find alternate routes at other crossings.
