ELKHART — Calling all musicians, painters and performance artists — a database is being created to keep track of locals who want to show off their talents at events in downtown Elkhart.

SoMa, a downtown revitalization group, is making a go-to list of local performers who want to be part of events like ArtWalk and parades at the Elkhart Jazz Festival.

“We’re looking for people who can make balloon animals, face painters, jugglers, artists, living statues, magicians — anyone who has a talent to share,” Lerner Theatre general manager David Smith said.

Anyone interested in being added to the database can email soma@thelerner.com with their name, a brief description of their talent, photos, videos and contact information.

“We know that there are so many talented people not just in the city of Elkhart but throughout the region,” SoMa chairwoman Diana Lawson said. “We feel that part of activating downtown is getting talented people to come out and do their thing.”
