Elkhart man dies after being found near high school
ELKHART — A man died shortly after he was found overnight Friday lying on school grounds near Elkhart Central High School.
Details about why he died are still unclear. The Elkhart Police Department and the Elkhart County Coroner's office are investigating the death.
Chad Alan Hardin, 42, of Elkhart, was found on the west side of the school property at about 2 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21, Lt. Mike Sigsbee of the Elkhart Police Department said.
Chief deputy coroner James Elliott said a passerby saw Hardin and called 911. Hardin was alive when paramedics arrived at the scene, he said.
Hardin was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Elliott said an autopsy was conducted Friday afternoon, but officials have not determined a cause or manner of death.
A toxicology report and a microscopic analysis were ordered to be conducted in the case. Results from these reports may take between six and eight weeks.
Elliott said he did not find any visible signs of trauma during the autopsy.
