Special patrol leads to arrests of eight in Elkhart for impaired driving
An Elkhart County Traffic Safety Partnership resulted in the arrest of eight impaired drivers in four hours.
ELKHART — An initiative targeting drunk and impaired drivers in Elkhart resulted in eight arrests, officials said in a press release Saturday, Feb. 15.
The Elkhart County Traffic Safety Partnership carried out an "impaired driving patrol" Friday night in southern and western Elkhart. The four-hour effort led to the eight arrests for impaired driving.
Another patrol is scheduled for Saturday night "with the goal of removing anyone driving impaired off of the roadway and holding them accountable," according to a press release Saturday from the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department.
The partnership is made up of representatives from law enforcement agencies all around Elkhart County. "People who choose to operate a vehicle while impaired on any substance that would prevent them from driving safely can expect to be arrested and brought to jail," said the press release.
Coming Feb. 28, the partnership will take part in Operation Pull Over, targeting aggressive and impaired drivers. The partnership is funded by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute.
