Upcoming festival in Bristol will pay it forward

The annual Karsyn Bell Pay it Forward Festival in Congdon Park will provide a day of entertainment in exchange for a food donation.

An upcoming Bristol festival will roll out the good times with a focus on giving back.

The Karsyn Bell Pay it Forward Festival is Saturday, Aug. 23, at Congdon Park, 200 N. Division St.

The annual event, hosted by nonprofit Santa’s Pantry, kicks off with a spaghetti dinner from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, at St. Mary’s Church, 411 W. Vistula St., Bristol.

Cost is “a donation from the heart,” according to the event Facebook page.

The festival itself takes place the following day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Horse and wagon rides will be offered, among other activities, including a BMX bike show, a blues performance by The StanmanThe Heartland Country Cloggers, the Indiana State yo-yo champion, live acoustic performances by Jeff and Colin Huff, rolling video gamesLeaps and Bounds Gymnastics, martial arts demos, a fire spinner, craft vendors, a spa tent and a puppet show.

Admission Saturday is a nonperishable food donation for the Bristol Food Pantry.

Since 2010, the festival has been held in memory of four-year-old Karsyn Bell, who died in 2009 after a two-year struggle with brain cancer. In 2010 the community raised more than $35,000 to build a playground in her honor
