Remember the days when fliers were the best way to get the word out about lost pets?

As you'd expect, the Internet has changed things a bit – particularly when it comes to social media. Fortunately for Elkhart County pet owners, Facebook has fostered the creation of several local pages dedicated to helping people find their missing pets.

Three pages – Lost and Found Dogs - Elkhart County, Michiana Missing Dog Network and South Bend Lost and Found Pets – not only allow locals to alert the community to their pets' disappearances, but post photographs and information about stray pets they've found as well.

In total, the pages have just over 3,700 likes and members.

Though the Facebook pages can get quite a few eyes on your missing pet's information, don't underestimate the importance of getting in touch with local Humane Societies about lost animals. The Humane Society of Elkhart County can be contacted at 574-848-4225, and The Humane Society of St. Joseph County can be contacted at 574-255-4726.
