NAPPANEE — Nappanee and Bremen fire departments responded to a house fire on Heather Boulevard on Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 1.

A call came in at 2:45 p.m. for the house at 501 Heather Blvd. that had caught fire.

The garage on the side of the house was destroyed and crews were busy on the scene removing the debris after the fire had been put out.

The heat of the fire melted the siding on the next house over at 511 Heather Blvd., Nappanee Fire Chief Don Lehman said.

Lehman said Gail Plotner, who lives at 501 Heather, was home when the fire started but was uninjured.

The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage to the rest of the home is unknown.
