JIMTOWN — Three snaps, two turnovers.

Jimtown found the grip. Concord never got a handle on the game.

The Jimmies, No. 1 in Class 3A, rode three first-half takeaways to a dominating 48-0 win over the rival Minutemen Friday night.

With a steady shower falling on Knepp Field early in the game, Concord handed the ball over on its first and third snaps of the game, fueling touchdown runs by Brody Olson and Devan Emerson.

Midway into the second quarter, a third miscue — an Olson interception — led to a third score as Emerson slid into the end zone from the 5.

Jimtown then pounded home the win with 27 points while harassing Concord’s offense.

The Jimmies rolled up a whopping 553 yards on offense and 24 first down while holding the Minutemen to just 157 total yards.

“They did everything well and their kids played hard,” CHS coach Tim Dawson said. “I said our playmakers have to make more plays than their playmakers and we didn’t make any plays.”

A slashing, steam-rolling run game piled up 458 yards — 139 by Tanner Adams and 122 by Emerson. In the second half, sophomores Tyler Lundy and Nik Olson combined for 123 yards and two touchdowns.

The win goes down in the history books as the largest margin of victory in the series. In 1997, the Jims posted a 43-0 decision. Jimtown also hadn’t won at Knepp Field in the series since 2000.

“Every time they started to get something going, either penalties or turnovers ... we were able to stop them,” Campbell said. “The score is surprising to me, but our kids kept going at them and we just kept popping plays.”
