 NorthWood, which won its third straight Northern Lakes Conference girls golf title (tying with Wawasee) and went 11-0 in dual matches, added its first-ever sectional title Saturday, Sept. 20, at Warsaw. Area teams to compete in Penn, Warsaw, East Noble events.

Agi Kreckova, an exchange student from Czech Republic, shot a 42 for the Blue Blazers, and NorthWood posted its first-ever dual win against Penn.

After losing two of its top players, NorthWood girls golf started the season with questions of whether the team could match its success in recent years. But the Panthers were determined to prove they could succeed after their star players graduated.

 Jim Garrett led Penn High School to three girls golf state titles in 2002, 2004 and 2005. He will be inducted into the Indiana Golf Coaches Hall of Fame in October.

Jim Garrett coached the Kingsmen to three girls state titles (2002, 2004, 2005) with two state runners-up finishes, one third and three fourths plus 10 regional crowns, 11 sectional titles and 13 Northern Indiana Conference championships.

 Satchel Pierce competes in the region portion of the Drive, Chip and Putt contest hosted by the PGA, USGA and The Masters at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel. The final is scheduled for April 5, 2015, on the historic 18th green at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Ga.

Pierce, a member at Christiana Creek Country Club in Elkhart, made it through three stages in order to participate in Augusta in the Boys 10-11 age division.
